Bolts power way to third straight win

Bolts 12 Boomers 8

CRESTWOOD, IL – The ThunderBolts scored six runs in the eighth inning to erase a late deficit and win their third straight game, 12-8 over the Schaumburg Boomers at Standard Bank Stadium Wednesday night.

The Bolts (8-13) got off to a fast start, scoring four runs in the first inning. Jonathan Garcia and Ransom LaLonde each picked up RBI singles in the rally, Jacob Tanis brought home a run on a groundout and Marquis Riley picked up an RBI double.

The Boomers (10-13) answered with five in the second. Alexi Colon and Garrett Gordon walked and Justin Vasquez singled to load the bases. Mike Valadez followed with a two-run double and Craig Massey hit a two-run triple. Mike Schulze’s sacrifice fly made it 5-4.

Windy City tied the score when Riley singled in the fourth and crossed the plate on a Larry Balkwill sacrifice fly.

The Boomers reclaimed the edge in the sixth inning, loading the bases on three infield singles before Schulze’s hit brought home two runs.

A Riley single and Max White RBI double the next inning brought the Bolts back to within one, but the Boomers distanced themselves once again with a Colon home run in the top of the seventh.

That’s when the ThunderBolts took over. They began the seventh inning with seven straight hits. Austin Gallagher tied the score with a two-run single and scored the go-ahead run on a Riley double, his fourth hit of the game. Max White hit a three-run homer, his first of the year, to put the game away at 12-8.

James Ferguson (1-0) pitched 2.1 innings of relief for the win and Kamakani Usui (0-1) allowed four runs in relief for the loss.

The ThunderBolts and Boomers will wrap up their two-game series on Thursday. Austin Wright (1-3, 6.64) gets the start for the Bolts against Schaumburg’s Anthony Gomez (1-3, 7.96). Pro Wrestling Blitz will be on hand for a postgame wrestling show and WWE superstar Ron Simmons will be signing autographs during the game. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 and the broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
