ThunderBolts crushed by Joliet

JOLIET, IL – The Joliet Slammers jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the Windy City ThunderBolts in the first two innings on their way to an 8-1 win over Windy City at Silver Cross Field Tuesday night.

The Slammers took a 2-0 advantage just three batters into the game as Marquis Riley singled and Nate Wilder walked ahead of Grant DeBruin’s two-run triple. DeBruin crossed the plate later that inning when Michael Wing reached on an error.

They added another four runs on four extra-base hits in the second. Erick Gaylord doubled and was brought home by Riley’s triple. Wilder and Wing each had RBI doubles to put the team up 7-0.

The ThunderBolts scored their only run in the top of the third. Adam Davis doubled and Mike Torres singled him in, but the ThunderBolts couldn’t capitalize any further on having two on with no outs. Overall, they stranded eight men in the game.

Dyllon Nuernberg came out of the Windy City bullpen in the second inning and pitched the rest of the way, pitching a career-high 6.1 innings. He allowed just one run in the third inning and retired 16 of the last 17 men he faced, striking out eight.

Evan Anundsen (2-2) started for the Slammers and earned the win, allowing just one run in six innings. The Slammers bullpen combined for three perfect frames.

Matt Wickswat (1-2) took the loss for Windy City. He gave up seven runs on six hits in 1.2 innings.

The ThunderBolts and Slammers will play the second game of their series on Wednesday night. Daniel Cropper (0-1, 10.50) will make his second start for the ThunderBolts and Chuck Lofgren (2-1, 4.42) will pitch for Joliet. First pitch at Silver Cross Field is scheduled for 7:05.
