Long traded to Winnipeg Goldeyes for Pease

THUNDERBOLT ALL-STAR WES LONG TRADED TO WINNIPEG
Left-handed pitcher Dustin Pease Received

Crestwood, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts professional baseball team, 2007 and 2008 Frontier League champions, have announced the completion of a trade with the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Shortstop Wes Long will be going from Windy City to Winnipeg, with the ThunderBolts receiving left-handed pitcher Steve Pease in return.
Wes Long completed his second season with Windy City by being named to the Frontier League’s post-season All-Star Team. Long led the ThunderBolts in hitting in 2008 (.335, fourth in the FL) and ranked third on the team with 11 home runs, 71 RBI, and 16 stolen bases. Long also led the ThunderBolts in hitting in 2007 (.334, sixth in the FL), along with doubles (36, first in the FL) and stolen bases (31, third in the FL) to go along with seven home runs and 67 RBI. A 29th round draft pick of the Oakland Athletics out of the University of Alabama-Huntsville, Long spent three seasons in their organization before signing with Windy City prior to the 2007 season. Dustin Pease finished the 2008 campaign with a 3-3 record, 1 save, and a 3.16 ERA (second lowest on the Winnipeg staff and sixth in the Northern League), striking out 80 batters (also second on the team) while walking only 26 in 79.2 innings. Pease made his professional debut with Winnipeg in 2007, finishing with a 1-2 record and 3.26 ERA. After spending the entire 2007 and the bulk of 2008 in the bullpen for the Goldeyes, Pease was moved to the starting rotation in August, responding with a 2-1 record and 1.91 ERA over four starts, striking out 39 batters in 37.2 innings.

“Trading Wes Long was a tough decision, but after two tremendous seasons with the ThunderBolts we felt it was only fair to honor his request to play closer to his home in Washington and try a different league,” commented ThunderBolts field manager Mike Kashirsky. “Dustin Pease was one of the top pitchers in the Northern League last year, and I look for him to be a key member of our starting rotation in 2009."
The Windy City ThunderBolts open the 2009 season on Thursday, May 21 at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood. For more information, please visit us online at www.wcthunderbolts.com or contact the ThunderBolts at 708-489-BALL or
