Weissheier’s Homer Not Enough in Loss to Otters

EVANSVILLE, IN – The Windy City ThunderBolts dropped the opening game of a three-game series, 6-2, against the Evansville Otters on Tuesday night at Bosse Field. With the loss & Schaumburg’s suspended game, the Bolts are 3.5 games back of first place with 18 games to play.

The Bolts (36-42) opened the scoring with a booming two-run homer by Rob Weissheier in the second inning.

It was all Otters (47-31) the rest of the way. In the bottom of the second, Jeffrey Baez hit a lead-off solo homer. After a double and a single, Andy DeJesus grounded out to second, scoring the tying run. The next hitter, Miles Gordon, pushed the Otters ahead for good with a sacrifice fly.

The insurance runs came in single-run innings in the third, seventh and eighth. Dakota Phillips had two of the three RBI with a sacrifice fly and an RBI single. DeJesus hit a seventh inning homer.

The starters took the decisions. Bolts starter Tyler Thornton (4-8) took the loss, allowing five runs in 6.2 innings. Polo Portela (8-2) completed seven innings, giving up two runs. It was Portela’s fourth quality start in as many appearances against the Bolts this season.

The Bolts and Otters play the middle game of the series on Wednesday at 6:35 PM. For live coverage and tickets, fans can visit wcthunderbolts.com
