Beach Bums Blowout 'Bolts, 16-1

The Windy City ThunderBolts were routed by the Traverse City Beach Bums 16-1 thanks in part to 12 walks by 'Bolts pitching on Sunday evening in front of 1,705 fans at Standard Bank Stadium.

The Beach Bums jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the second inning and chased starter Eric Fussell (0-3) from the game after just 1.1 innings. Fussell allowed seven runs, six earned, on six hits and three walks.

Traverse City starter David Nathanson (4-0) pitched a sparkling 7.1 innings of work giving up just one run on seven hits while striking out six batters.

Charles O'Neal came into the game in relief for the ThunderBolts after Fussell left the game and pitched 3.2 innings giving up two runs on four hits. Josh Lowey pitched the next 3.0 innings and retired eight batters in a row at one point. However, he loaded the bases with two walks and a hit before walking in a run in the ninth. Desmond Jones pitched the rest of the ninth for Windy City.

The ThunderBolts will enjoy a day off on Monday before starting a three-game set against the Kalamazoo Kings at Standard Bank Stadium on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 7:05 and will feature Kalamazoo's RHP Sam Mann (1-0, 6.35) against Windy City's Tyler Kelsey. It will Kelsey's first professional start of his career.
