Seratelli Snapped Up By Kansas City Royals

Crestwood, IL – The Windy City ThunderBolts have sold a second member of the 2006 roster to a Major League organization as the Kansas City Royals have purchased the contract of infielder Anthony Seratelli. He is currently in Arizona and will compete in spring training for a spot with one of Kansas City’s minor league affiliates.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Anthony. I know he has worked very hard for this and we are happy for him and wish him the best,” said ThunderBolts manager Andy Haines.

Seratelli was at or near the top of all the major offensive categories for the ThunderBolts last year in his first season as a professional. He delivered a .286 average, seven triples, six home runs, 39 RBI, 48 runs scored, 34 walks, and 28 stolen bases. His triple and home run totals were best on the team and his seven triples were third most in the Frontier League. Seratelli finished second on the ThunderBolts in RBI, runs, hits, and stolen bases and was third in walks and batting average.

The New Jersey native closed out the season on a hot streak, picking up hits in 11 of his final 15 games with two home runs and 13 RBI over that stretch. He was voted as the ThunderBolts 2006 MVP in the postseason fan poll.

Seratelli’s 2006 teammate Charlie Lisk was sold to the San Diego Padres in September. The Royals have now purchased three former ThunderBolts in a little over a year. Infielder Justin Schuda and pitcher Chris Hayes were picked up by Kansas City last February and March, respectively. Hayes had a great year for Class A Burlington in 2006, posting a 3-6 record with a 2.66 ERA and seven saves in 45 games. He led the Bees in appearances and was third in saves. Overall, the ThunderBolts have had six players signed by Major League organizations in the team’s three year history.

The ThunderBolts have released the team’s 2007 schedule and will host the Rockford RiverHawks for Opening Night at Hawk Ford Field on May 23, 2007. The complete schedule can be found at www.WCThunderBolts.com.
