ThunderBolts Sign Two Rookies

Crestwood, IL – The 2007 Frontier League Champion Windy City ThunderBolts signed outfielder Ryan Addison (pictured) and first baseman Cleveland Brownlee to contracts for the 2008 season. Both Addison and Brownlee will make their professional debuts with the ThunderBolts.

Ryan Addison spent the past two seasons as a starting outfielder for Elon University in North Carolina. Addison hit .286 each year, tying for the team lead with ten home runs in 2007 to go along with 43 RBI and 20 stolen bases. He finished with eight home runs and 40 RBI in 2006 while stealing 22 bases without being caught in leading the Phoenix to the Southern Conference title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Addison finished fourth in the Southern Conference in stolen bases in 2006 and fifth in 2007.

Cleveland Brownlee comes to the ThunderBolts out of Clark-Atlanta University. Brownlee finished his senior campaign with a .268 batting average, six home runs, 23 RBI, and 12 stolen bases after posting a .311 average with 12 home runs, 37 RBI, and six stolen bases in 2006. Brownlee led the Panthers in home runs both seasons while leading the team in RBI in 2006 and ranking second in RBI and stolen bases in 2007. Despite playing for a school that only played 32 games each year, Brownlee finished tied for third in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in home runs both years. In his four-year career, Brownlee combined to hit .312 with 29 home runs and 111 RBI for the Panthers.

"Ryan is a very versatile outfielder who can play all three outfield positions. He handles the bat very and is someone who puts a lot of pressure on the defense because of his speed,” commented ThunderBolts field manager Brian Nelson. “Cleveland is an impressive athlete with very good power and speed. He is someone who will be vying for time at 1st base and DH.”

The Windy City ThunderBolts are entering their tenth season as members of the Frontier League. The ThunderBolts play at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood and will look to defend their Frontier League Championship starting next May.
