HOST FAMILY PROGRAM
When players decide to continue their baseball career in independent
baseball, many travel from across the country to play in the Frontier
League. This means that they are hours away from family members and
friends. For this reason, when they arrive in Crestwood, they look for a
touch of home to make them feel welcome.
One way the community "adopts" the players is by serving as a Host Family
during the season. Families provide housing, as well as a support system,
for the player(s) they host.
Host Family Responsibilites:
* Provide room and board for the player(s).
* Be understanding of their schedule. (The ThunderBolts will play 96 games
in 104 days; 48 of those games will take place in Crestwood. The players
will arrive in early May for spring training and the season will end in mid-September.)
* Encourage them to participate as members of their families.
* Support the players in their drive to play Major League Baseball.
Player Responsibilites:
* Adhere to the rules set forth by the Host Family.
* Participate as a member of the family, giving the respect/consideration he would give his own family.
* Provide his own transporation to and from the ballpark.
* Wash & dry his own laundry.
* Pay for his own long distance phone calls. (Most players have cell phones.)
Host Families and players are asked to complete a questionnaire before
they are matched. This enables us to match a player with the appropriate
family. We do everything we can to ensure a suitable match is made for
both the player and family.
If you would like more information on serving as a Host Family, please
contact Robbin Zaffino, the Host Family Coordinator. Robbin can be reached
at (708) 489-2255 or by email at rzaffino@wcthunderbolts.com.
Thank you and we look forward to a great season!!
